Sashiko Samplers

DARUMA's classic Sashiko Samplers are an easy-to-make staple craft. The Samplers are perfect as dish towels, napkins, or as an outer wrapping for homemade gifts. Each pattern is printed on durable kitchen cloth fabric (sarashi) that can be washed off after finishing. In other words, do not wash or steam until you finish stitching, or the pattern will be lost! From traditional to one-stitch patterns, DARUMA's Sashiko Samplers make the best use of their beautiful sashiko threads.

Continuous Traditional Patterns
Styles 1001–1008 / 1201–1208: A selection of patterns that are easy to enjoy and satisfying to embroider. Each traditional pattern has been passed down since ancient times with its own original history and meaning. You can use just one color of Sashiko thread or multiple. Delight in your time with this craft as if you were coloring a picture.

Traditional Samplers require between 12 and 40 yards (11 to 30 meters) of Sashiko thread. Available in colors White or Navy, in blue/grey packaging.


Single-Stitch Patterns
Styles 1101–1164: Single-Stitch Sashiko is a technique in which vertical, horizontal, and diagonal stitches are created in sequence at regular intervals. The pattern emerges as you stitch, and you'll forget about time and enjoy the warmth of the handiwork.

Single-Stitch Samplers require between 28.5 and 122.5 yards (26 to 112 meters) of Sashiko threads, or 2 Sashiko Thread Cards or 2 Embroidery Floss skeins per sampler. Available in White with green/grey packaging.

10G5 & 12G5: Marked clearly at 5mm increments with darker indications for 10cm. Perfect for unleashing your creativity and designing your very own sashiko patterns! Available in White or Navy, in grey/grey packaging.
