DARUMA's Sashiko Samplers are dish towels that are easily made by simply stitching according to the printed pattern. This product has been a DARUMA staple for many years and was updated in 2021 with even better materials, design, and a guide in English on how to make it. From traditional patterns to one-stitch patterns, the sashiko samplers make the best use of sashiko threads. Printed on durable kitchen cloth fabric (sarashi) that can be washed off after finishing. In other words, do not wash or steam until you finish stitching or the pattern will be lost.
Continuous Traditional Patterns (blue/grey packaging): A large selection of patterns that are easy to enjoy and satisfying to embroider. You can use just one color of thread or multiple, delight in your time with this craft as if you were coloring a picture. Each traditional pattern has been passed down since ancient times with its own original history. (These samplers require between 12-40 yards/11 to 30 meters of Sashiko thread).
Single Stitch Patterns (green/grey packaging): Single Stitch Sashiko is a technique in which vertical, horizontal, and diagonal stitches are stitched in sequence at regular intervals. The pattern emerges as you go, so forget about time and enjoy the warmth of the handiwork. Traditional and original patterns are available. (*Each sampler requires between 28.5-122.5 yards/26-112 meters)
Grid Guide (grey/grey packaging): Marked clearly at 5mm increments with darker indications for 10cm. Perfect for creating your own sashiko designs! Available in white or navy.
One Sashiko Thread Card - Thin, Multi-Color Kasuri Card, or Sashiko Embroidery Floss skein is enough to complete a Continuous Traditional sampler. *Note: You'll need at least two cards or two skeins for the Single Stitch patterns.
